Oh cool, forgot you were gonna mention that story today!
We are still waiting on some official Gen2 Windows Phone announcements in Canada, but at least Nokia Canada has stated they will be releasing Windows Phones in Canada next fiscal quarter (like the USA).
The Carrier story mirrors my student’s trip to MTS (Manitoba Telephone System) this morning. He said the agent even asked him ‘why would you even want a windows phone?”, then kept describing different Android and Apple plans. The only phone in stock was an LG WP7 phone that was hidden in some corner (which isn’t even located on their website anymore). Wade said the Sales agent admitted he didnt know the how to work it, after trying to push him on 4 other phones & plans Android/iPhone).
I advised Wade to buy a Samsung Focus Gen1 phone off Ebay ($160-$250), switch out sims with his current phone and wait for Nokia to release in Canada. Samsung and HTC are disappointing me with their lack of Canadian presence.
Actually you dont eve have to be a student programmer to have your fee waved.
I’m a student in advertising and i got my fee for developers waves when signing up too.

Microsoft has to help pay for retail displays and sales commissions, or else these phones will get buried in sea of Android crud.
